Opportunities for the Florida Space Coast and Beyond
The Florida Space Coast has all the aspects to support and consequently benefit from the development of a clean energy technology infrastructure:
- Many miles of coastline
Offshore Florida could potentially accomodate enough offshore wind-turbines to provide a large percentage of coastal and in-land power needs. Offshore windfarms could provide true energy independence.
- Existing infrastructure
A broad technology infrastructure currently exists in Brevard County, ranging from space, to defense and electronics. Clean energy development could supplement areas where growth is not as strong.
- Major port with surrounding industrial base
Port Canaveral could be a potential launching point for offshore wind turbine manufacturing, installation and maintenance. The presence of port facilities and maritime industry can be augmented with the new mission of wind farm manufacturing.
- Technology-savvy workforce
Brevard County has a world-class, trained and diverse workforce. A range of engineers, scientists and technicians will be required for development of the infrastructure required to support offshore wind and other associated industries.
- Favorable economic development environment
An urgent need exists to implement plans which provide alternatives to current parts of our economic engine which are being phased out. A positive mindset exists at various levels of government to engage in swift action. It is time for action.
- University and National Laboratory activities in Energy
AML Energy has a history of working closely with the Center for Advanced Power Systems at FSU in pursuit of advanced magnet technology for next generation power systems. In addition, FAU is performing pioneering work in development of sub-oceanic tidal and current energy systems. These activities will form a foundation for commercialization of new energy technologies in Florida.
Clean Technology Jobs
Development and manufacturing of systems for renewable energy generation will employ the best and brightest human resources. In addition to direct employment by AML Energy, other sub-contracted competencies such as precision manufacturing, electronics and computer control will be required. As a result, many new employment opportunities will be created.
Large scale development and production of New Energy technologies has the ability to affect and compliment other major industries existing on the Space Coast such as Space, Defense and Electronics.
